About Aspen

Aspen Kent was born in Kinsale, Ireland to Jesbell Kent. She started working as a waitress in a pub in San Francisco where she met Hadrian's dad and had a one night stand. She became pregnant from the brief affair, and fell into depression. To cope with the pregnancy and being alone, she turned to alcohol and drugs, she just wanted her and her unborn baby to die. Lyla ended up in a relationship with a member of the Italian Mafia. Aspen was often neglected by her mother and stepfather, they were both heavy into drugs and her mother was often pimped out, to repay her 'debt' for being taken off the streets. Aspen did not attend school, instead she spent most of her days locked in his bedroom. Her parents would tell her this was the safest place for her, and Apens mother would visit often, but she seemed to be lost in thought anytime she visited. Lyla could never explain why she had to stay in her room, but as a child, she didn't question many things. Aspen spent most of her time alone, but even then she would be visited by a man who called himself Apollo. Aspen had always assumed she had imagined the man with Golden hair, so gentle and kind to the young girl. This 'imaginary' person was what kept Aspen sane while locked away in her room. When Aspen was five, she heard screaming and yelling, things crashing. Aspen remembered seeing the man with the Golden hair appear, telling her to be a brave little soldier, that soon all of this would be over, Aspen would be safe. That would be the last time Aspen would see the Golden haired man. When Aspen turned from the man, she saw that her door was broken. She made her way out into the madness and she found an unforgiving scene as she slowly peeked into the kitchen. Lyla had been cursing and screaming at her step dad, who in turn, shoved her to the ground. She watched as the man grabbed a knife, pushing the blade deep into his mother multiple times until Lyla laid still, limp. Aspen had remembered what Apollo had told her "Be brave." Aspen turned, standing with her back against the wall, trying to steady her breathing before making a turn into the living room. She found a phone and dialed 911, trying to keep as quiet as possible. Aspen could hear her step dad screaming in the kitchen. She was able to get the dispatcher to understand she needed someone to come to the home before her step dad came into the living room and found her. The next few moments were a blur. Hadrian didn't even utter a word. She just remembered Apollo's words to him, her eyes clenched tight to avoid watching the older man deliver his wicked blows.

When Aspen woke, she was lying in a hospital bed - alone. Having no other known family, she was placed into foster care. Aspen didn't stay in the home very long, like many other children, she bounced around from home to home. She struggles in school, unable to read or focus. Her foster parents would call her stupid, or a freak as she learned of her abilities. When she turned eight, she ran away from the foster care system. A woman named Jezebel was sent by Apollo to find the young girl and train her up. And so she did. Jezebel was tender and caring to the young demigod. Aspen learned of her divine bloodline, and was taught how to properly harness her abilities. When Aspen turned 13, the house she lived at with Jezebel was attacked by a Hydra. Aspen barely escaped with her life, Jezebel was hanging on to scraps. Jezebel held onto the last bit of strength to get the pair to camp, where Jezebel sacrificed herself to an empusa to save Aspen’s life.

Will Solace brought the girl into camp, where she was quickly claimed by Apollo. She is currently 18 years old and has been at camp for the past five years.
